At least 10 people were killed and 10 more were injured in a shooting that

occurred Saturday night at a dance club in Monterey Park, California.

Police are still searching for the culprit who got away.

The assailant was characterised as a male with Asian characteristics by Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna,

however he cautioned that this is only preliminary information at this time because they have received conflicting descriptions.

The incidents took place at the Star Dancing dance studio, which is located on Garvey Avenue,

after 10:00 pm, at a place where tens of thousands of people had just finished celebrating

the first day of the Lunar New Year, a popular Asian custom. At the scene,

the 10 victims were pronounced dead. The dead, according to Luna, include 5 men and 5 women,

but their identities are unknown. According to Capt. Andrew Meyer of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department,

the injuries suffered by the victims range in severe. According to Meyer, the shooting was already in progress

when his operatives got on the site. Both inside the building and in the parking area,

victims were discovered. People "left the building screaming." Firefighters were assisting the injured.
