ANFIELD, LIVERPOOL — Wout Faes scored two own goals to condemn Leicester to a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.

The Foxes had led inside four minutes as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall walked through the Reds defence to score a goal of barely believable simplicity.

But the game was turned on its head by half-time, the hapless Faes twice putting through his own net in farcical fashion.

It was more than the hosts deserved, in truth, but they saw out an evenly contested second period to secure a fourth Premier League win on the spin.

This was another game that evidenced Liverpool's desperate need for midfield reinforcements in the January transfer window.

Leicester looked quicker, stronger and smarter in the centre of the park as they swept up second balls and won the majority of the battles across the 90 minutes.

But, if there was one man in a Liverpool shirt who could come away with his head held high, it was Thiago Alcantara.

The Spaniard didn't have much help in the engine room, but produced a performance that mixed craft and graft to give the Reds what little control they had.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is so often criticised for his one-on-one defending that it is only right to highlight when he does well in that regard.
